Lennox Hearth Products Selected for PBS Program's Show Home Design

ORANGE, CA. (May 29, 2009) – Lennox Hearth Products (LHP), long renowned for the warmth and aesthetic appeal its fireplaces bring to any living space, will be featured as the hearth of choice in the 2009 Susan G. Komen Build for the Cure Show Home, located in the desirable Springfield development in Ft. Mill, N.C. The company donated three fireplaces through Residential Construction Specialties (RCS) in Charlotte. The products were selected for the home built for Dr. Sarah Morris by E.S. Johnson Builders.

Vicki Payne and her daughter Sloan Payne Rutter, hosts of PBS’ For Your Home, created the interior of the 2009 Build for the Cure Show Home, a 5,700-square-foot house designed with exceptional detailing. All proceeds from the October 2009 public tours of the home will benefit the Susan G. Komen Fund, the nation’s largest grassroots initiative to fight breast cancer. Payne, a cancer survivor, and Rutter will discuss the project in nine separate episodes about the home and its design beginning October 8.

The Build for the Cure project, now in its third year, will feature two Dave Lennox Signature™ Collection Crestline™ gas fireplaces with herringbone brick pattern firebox interiors. Bob Dischner, LHP’s director of marketing, said the louverless Crestline fireplace offers a unique combination of qualities.

“The producers of For Your Home want this project to inspire people with ideas that encourage their creativity and we’re certainly glad to help in that regard,” Dischner said. “They thought this model was perfect in both the Media Center and the Family Gathering room because it combines visual charm and warmth to complement the home’s large, open living spaces.”

The Crestline’s large 28-by-42-inch opening and realistic oak gas log set offer a dramatic, unobstructed fire presentation. The gas fireplaces, each with 50,000 BTU input, are equipped with automatic dampers.

The outdoor living space in the rear of the home features a Dave Lennox Signature™ Collection Oasis™ LSO-43, with a distinctively elegant, heavy-gauge stainless steel design throughout, numerous premium options, and one of the largest viewing areas available in an outdoor fireplace.

For Your Home’s reality show format will provide a compelling look into the planning, coordination and challenges that Payne and Rutter face in making a truly unique design statement. As a cancer survivor,

Payne said she welcomes the opportunity to aid the Susan G. Komen Fund and will enjoy showing For Your Home’s viewers how much a charming and functional design element like a gas fireplace can add to the visual appeal, livability and ambience of a space.

“When we were making our plans for the Build for the Cure Home, we were struck by how well the Lennox fireplaces fit in our design plans and underscored our philosophy that design elements can, and should, be at once attractive and effective,” said Payne.

The 2009 Build for the Cure home will be part of the national events focused on breast cancer awareness during October. Public tours will be held for three weekends, beginning October 9. Viewers of For Your Home will have the opportunity to see the project come to fruition during nine, 30-minute programs, which will air on 583 PBS stations in October and November. The project will feature shows that range from the selection of construction materials to designing the gardens.

For Your Home is produced by Charlotte-based Cutters Productions, which specializes in lifestyle and “how-to” programming. Cutters has provided PBS with 23 program titles for distribution over the past 25 years. Vicki Payne, the creative force behind Cutters, has been a significant presence in the do-it-yourself segment for three decades.

“Being able to contribute to this endeavor has been a wonderful opportunity for the Lennox Hearth Products family because partnering in Build for the Cure is a natural fit,” said Dischner. “In difficult economic circumstances, we know there are many needs that go unfilled — the cause for breast cancer research should not be in that category.”
