Lennox Hearth Products fireplaces help turn New York Brownstone into City's “Greenest Home”

Good Housekeeping Home Garners Silver LEED Certification

ORANGE, CA. (March 18, 2009) – Nothing makes a house a home quite like a fireplace – especially when the home was once an uninhabited brownstone in New York City. Good Housekeeping’s third annual “Green House” project included three fireplaces from Lennox Hearth Products (LHP), which brought aesthetic and environmental warmth to the renovated apartment in New York’s famous Harlem neighborhood.

LHP Merit™ Series B-vent (LMBV) fireplaces were installed in the living room, master bedroom and open kitchen area. The LMBV, which provides the look of an open-front, wood-burning fireplace, proved to be an ideal solution for each space. In addition to their visual appeal, the fireplaces will help heat the 4,600-square-foot home with environmentally safe emissions.

“It’s gratifying to be included in an eco-conscious initiative like the Good Housekeeping Green House project,” said Stacy Zar, LHP marketing services manager. “We’re dedicated to sustainability and to conservation practices that protect the way we live so that future generations can have the same standard of living we enjoy. And Lennox was pleased to partner with Good Housekeeping in earning the LEED points to reach this certification level.”

The project team completed its work in just seven months, in time for Good Housekeeping’s issue of “Your Good House,” released in November 2008. When the house was finished, 151 West 122nd Street had been transformed into a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly home.

Good Housekeeping’s Green House initiative represents a new media benchmark in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. LEED, which sets rigorous standards for sustainable building, has four progressive rating levels. The Harlem green home, the first LEED-certified private residence in Manhattan, attained the highest rating possible without new construction.
